Policy, Systems and Management

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. successfully implemented the Nepal Family Health Program II for the U.S. Agency for International Development from 2007 to 2012. For further information on project activites, visit the NFHP II page on jsi.com.

NFHP II supports efforts of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) of the Government of Nepal to deliver quality health care services with an emphasis on expanding coverage to unreached, marginalized and disadvantaged populations. Project support is primarily aimed at peripheral-level FP/MNCH services but includes cross-cutting support notably for health commodity logistics, behavior change, human resources and decentralization.

NFHP II supports the development and implementation of policies which can contribute to improvements in access and quality of FP/MNCH services. A particular focus is the government's decentralization initiative.

NFHP II also seeks to contribute to measurable, positive changes in institutional culture within public sector health work, creating conditions more conducive for high performance. We contribute to increased robustness of systems, procedures, and policies. We support strengthened planning and program management by our government counterparts at all levels. We seek to exercise influence with partners to broaden the resource base for primary health care services, with increased contributions to FCHV program and other aspects of peripheral level care.

We provide support to national Technical Working Groups in the form of technical assistance and material support. Assistance is given to the National Health Training Center to improve effectiveness in coordinating public-sector in-service training across the technical areas NFHP II is involved in.
